Working on the revival, preservation and passing down of the Yomitan Village traditional weaving style, <I>Hana-ori</I>.

Yutanza Hana-ori
introduced in the 14th-15th centuries during the course of overseas trades with Southeast Asian countries, was once designated as cloth for the Ryukyuan court and was passed on as such. From the middle of the Meiji Era (1868-1912), as demand declined, production struggled for a while but was revived in 1964 after 90 years. Today it is a designated intangible cultural property and was designated a traditional craftwork by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Yomitan Hana-ori Cooperative is the result of the great efforts in revival realized by Yomitan Village. Near the village office stands the Traditional Craft Center, which exhibits and sells its creations.
