There are several must-see Tug-of-War events this August to October. We pick up to four huge tug-of-war in Okinawa. The origin of the tug-of-war was roughly 400 years ago. It was traditionally done to ensure a plentiful harvest and bumper catch.

Yonabaru Great Tug of War
This event continuing on for nearly 400 years! See the powerful rope-pulling with drums pounding, bells ringing, and flags waving in the background. Everyone can participate.

Itoman Great Tug of War
It is a ceremonial event to wish for a year of rich harvest and bumper catch. A costume parade warms up the crowd before the great tug-of-war bout. Everyone can participate.

Maezato Great Tug of War
This event, there still remain style of ancient fertility rites. On this day, people will Eisa Dance in historical costumes, traditional performance bo-jutsu and Gae-battle. Viewing only.

It's a signature fall event of Gusukuma, Urasoe City.
