Naha Airport is the air gateway to Okinawa. Regular flights operate from major domestic airports as well as foreign countries. There is also a Tourist Information Center, bank and post office, etc. in the terminal.
Boats and airplanes can be used from the Okinawa Main Island to outlying islands. Ishigaki Island and Miyako Island are convenient starting points for visiting the Miyako and Yaeyama regions.
Rental cars, buses, and taxis are the main means of transportation on the islands. Depending on your destination, rental bicycles are also available.
A landmark of Naha is Okinawa's first monorail "Yui Rail". It runs from Naha Airport to Shurijo Castle in about 27 minutes one way.
Bus lines cover almost the entire Okinawa Main Island and are a convenient way to go sightseeing. Buses also run on the outlying islands.
Since taxis on Okinawa are less expensive than the mainland, they are a popular means of transportation.
Rental cars are very convenient for visiting sightseeing spots efficiently. There are many car rental agencies on many Okinawan islands and reservations can be made by phone, the Internet, and from your accommodation.
Rental bicycles, which are available on many of the outlying islands including the Main Island, are a popular mode of transportation for easily visiting various places. The cost is reasonable and touring around the islands is possible on the smaller outlying islands.
