Okinawa Eisa Summer Season 2012

The Eisa drum dance is a seasonal tradition in Okinawa’s summers which has now become well-known throughout the nation. Traditionally, the Eisa is performed during Obon which is on July 13 to the 15 on the lunar calendar (which falls on Monday, August 19 to Wednesday, August 21 this year). From mid-July to October, centering around Oban, numerous Eisa events are held at various locations across the prefecture!

Feature Points

Organized by the associations of residents and youths of Higashi, Okinawa City, this Eisa Festival is deeply rooted in the local community.

Feature Points

At the main stage is a performance of Urasoe Sandai Outou Matsuri, themed on the Ryukyu Kingdom period, the Tedako Enbu Matsuri, featuring local traditional performance arts, and eisa performances by youths.
There are numerous events scheduled aside from those at the Main Stage, such as the festivities held in the evening before the Festival on Yafuso Odori Street.
A total of 2,000 fireworks will color the skies over the two-day Festival.

Feature Points

Being an international festival with a great gathering of Eisa groups and fans from all across the world, the Festival is based on three concepts: Umui (Prayer), Chimudon (Emotion), and Shinkanuchaa (Exchange).
The Festival is packed with excitement and fun in the contest where the audiences are treated to high-level performances, Eisa performances passed down the generations in various districts throughout the prefecture, and the Prefectural Eisa University and workshops to learn about Eisa including its history.
